Committee Chairs

There are numerous opportunities to get involved with the Chamber. Serve on a Chamber Committee and join our region's progress. The following is a list of current committees, task forces and councils along with a brief description of each. These groups are headed by the leadership of our volunteers. To request an appointment, contact the Chamber staff person responsible for that committee.

African American Business Council

Members meet monthly to network, share business information, formulate solutions to business challenges as well as offer regional business enhancement recommendations to the Chamber's Board of Directors. Chaired by Robert Kelly of Kelly Construction Company. Chamber staff contact is Niki Anthony.

Ambassadors Committee

Ambassadors assist in increasing membership retention by making outreach calls to new members and attending Chamber events each month. Ambassadors also serve as goodwill representatives, volunteering time to represent and informing members of the opportunities available through Chamber membership. Chaired by Bragg Scroggins of Hilton, Birmingham Perimeter Park. Staff contact is Debbie Singer.

Birmingham Venture Club

This group provides an informal meeting place for investors, entrepreneurs and others interested in the formation of new businesses or the expansion of young businesses in the Birmingham region. Chaired by Philip Hodges of Redmont Venture Partners.  Chamber staff contact is Kellie Harper.

Constitution Task Force

The Birmingham region and indeed the entire state has been held back by our antiquated 1901 Constitution that has now been amended more than 700 times. The lack of home rule and the need for tax reform seriously hampers economic prosperity. This task force supports statewide initiatives as well as local actions that will accelerate the momentum for change. Chaired by Tom Carruthers of Bradley Arant Rose & White. Entrepreneur's Roundtable Program

Multiple groups of business owners meet monthly to share in confidence their business experiences. It is open to any chamber member business owner, but participation must be approved due to the confidential nature of discussions. Chaired by Dan Pahos of Home Instead Senior Care. Environmental Committee

The members recommend policy positions and take action on board approved matters dealing with the environment. Chaired by Phillip Wiedmeyer of Applied Research Center of Alabama. Chamber staff contact is Libba Miller.

Executive Women's Roundtables   

The roundtables address issues of personal and professional growth for women business owners and top-level executives. Participants attend monthly lunch meetings which include opportunities for information gathering, problem solving and networking. Executive Women's Roundtable I is co-chaired by Marlene Wallace of Career Concepts, Inc. and Rebecca Blythe. Executive Women’s Roundtable II is Cayrn Terradas of Capstone Development International, LLC and Rachael Grammer of VisionResearch Corp. Executive Women’s Roundtable III is co-chaired by Marsha Holmes of American Cash Collateral, Inc. and Georgia Lay of Birmingham Medical Alliance, Inc. Due to the confidential nature of the discussions, roundtable membership is by application. There are at present three roundtables, each with its own personality and style. Finance & Taxation Committee

This group addresses issues relating to tax reform, appropriate funding sources for transit, and other public service issues that relate to economic development. Chaired by Bruce Ely of Bradley Arant Rose & White, LLP. Chamber staff contact is Makenzi Hamilton.

Governmental Affairs Committee

The committee lobbies for the Chamber's state and federal legislative agendas, working both in Montgomery and Washington to ensure funding and positioning. Chaired by David Stewart of Bradley Arant Rose & White, LLP. Chamber staff contact is Libba Miller.

Hispanic Business Council (HBC)

The council assists Hispanic-owned businesses and Hispanic businesspersons through networking and educational activities. It offers a forum for sharing business information and seeks to increase awareness of the growing Hispanic population within the Birmingham region. Chaired by Wendy Madden of Balch & Bingham. Project Corporate Leadership Steering Committee

A comprehensive nine-month program for middle managers and other professionals nominated by their companies and selected by the PCL Steering Committee. The PCL curriculum includes: leadership development, gender relations, generational differences/similarities, team building, community/civic leaders and much more. Public Safety & Security Committee

 The committee works to maintain cooperation between law enforcement and the business community, and provides staff to the Crime Stoppers program. Monitors security issues as well as developments related to fraud, retail crime and employee theft. Chaired by Randy Mayfield of Alabama Power Company. Chamber staff contact is Libba Miller.

Small Business Committee

Members are responsible for planning the annual Small Business Week celebration in May. Committee membership is open to anyone willing to work on projects. Chaired by George Williams of Enterprise Answers, Inc. Chamber staff contact is Ashley Grigg.
